Question DC...

What was the name of the author who wrote those dog training books you like? I went back and tried to find what you said, but couldn't find the right post.

Pat Miller. She's fabulous. I've read dozens of training books but hers is by far the best. It takes a little more time & consistency but the payoff is that dogs are more consistently obedient than with other methods.

For some reason I love the most stubborn dogs breeds best: Rotties & Huskies. Both are notorious for their hard-headedness. Her methods have brought order into our lives! If it will work for these punks then it will work for any dog. :)

My thoughts and prayers are with you during puppyhood. I honestly don't know if I'll ever take on a puppy again. It's so much work!

Lyra (my dog) is still in baby phase. (Rotties don't hit maturity until about 3.) We have another year to go.

So far this week she's chewed up (and when I say chewed up I mean demolished) one of my temple shoes, my expensive basil thermometer, eye shadow, clothes pins, pages from my journal, and probably a lot of stuff I haven't found yet. :)

Hang in there. I love to talk dogs so feel free to post or email me. I have lots of experience as my dad is an avid dog person. I was born into a family with five dogs! Not much has changed.

oh man! yeah, puppies are super hard. i grew up in a family that always had at least one, but more often two or more, dogs. the dogs stayed outside though, so we didn't have so much trouble with the chewing up of things. what kind do you have again mary? i know you've told me a million times, but i can't remember. it's a mix, that's all i remember. someday, i want to own a mastiff. that's my dream dog.

I'm not even kidding Liz when I say that I used that same phrase earlier today...

a mastiff is my dream dog... Then I went on to say that I have several dream dogs but there's a special place in my heart for mastiffs. (English I'm not as fond of bull or neo mastiffs.)

Superman is 3/4 boxer and 1/4 retriever of some sort. He's VERY pretty, and some day I'll post photos to prove it. The very first dog I was unafraid of was a really old bull mastiff named Bo. He was the most gentle sweet dog I've ever met. He lived across the street and was big enough to ride!

Oh yeah, Superman is becoming a eunuch on Tuesday.

Very wise. They're so much easier to handle afterwards. :)

Well, they only had 2 dog training books at our massive library (it really is massive, I find it odd that they only have 2 books on this subject). I got one that looks pretty good. Our new library is super cool! They have self checkout, and you scan your library card and stack your books on a special plate, and it magically knows which books you're getting! It's probably a sign of "The Beast" (all the fun new doodads are) but I don't care. It's cool! When will they be able to do this with our groceries I want to know? Just stack your groceries on the conveyor belt, and they are all rung up at one time! They can do it with library books, they should be able to do it with groceries! I'll have to check the technology out and start my own grocery store. Everyone would come! You know what? This is a great thought...I'll make this into a post and everyone will be sure to read it. :)
